More game mechanics should be designed as mini-games

Discussion

EU5 has a very strong foundation with a lot of potential, but I feel like many game mechanics aren’t as fun as they should be b/c they haven’t been designed as mini-games, but as additional components to the larger game.

Things like unions, parliaments, HRE, subject management, the Catholic Church, trade, production, etc should follow game design elements to keep the player incentivized to participate and win. In EU4, the Curia for example was its own fun game of trying to increase papal influence and then using that influence to either control the Curia or gained bonuses. In EU5, we get to vote on a new papal bill each year (if you have a cardinal) and potentially canonize a saint if you want
