Is anyone else still SO impressed with NES music?

[Discussion]

I'm not sure if this belongs here or in r/musictheory because of how technical it is, but for me the awe I feel is inextricable from medium and the nostalgia.

I was playing around with songs I remember that use mode shifts or metric modulation when I realized that the Metroid (NES) - Title Music, despite its apparent simplicity, does both.

In case anyone else missed it, Hirokazu Tanaka's Title Music for Metroid (1986) is a song in three parts. I hear a beginning in D Aeolian with its famous 6-note intro over droning fifths, and then it shifts to D Mixolydian at 0:30 when the new melody starts. It lastly picks up a swing feel at 1:14 when it goes from 4/4 to 6/8 before looping back to D Aeolian in 4/4.

I could go further into Metroid's other songs' use of music modes, meter changes, and even whole-tone scales, but overall, I just wanted to gush about how I'm still impressed with the musical complexity of NES games and see if there are others out there.
