Questions about the process and documents required for use of vehicles

General Discussion 🗣️ 💬

Hello folks of Hyderabad. I want some clarity regarding the documents and the requirements to own and ride a vehicle in the state. I feel like there is this huge problem with making things transparent and clear to the common man about the steps and the processes to get documents and work done for your vehicle. The reliance on a middle-man is something that I dislike heavily as they take advantage of our ignorance and charge rates much higher than what the government has state. I am writing this post to get me out of ignorance and clarity regarding the process of getting the required documents and the fees/penalty structure state by the Government of Telangana. Before writing this post I tried to find information regarding the same on the official website of Transport Department but to no avail. All I could find was services but no documentation. I did send an email to the support but have less hope of getting a reply. As for getting information from the officials at offline RTO locations I tried but they are least helpful. The norm is such that they themselves ask us to approach the agents (middle-man) that stand outside.

So my situation is such that I have to renew the Registration Certificate of a Bajaj Pulsar 150 DTSi, the initial date of registration is 18th July, 2002 and is registered on the name of my uncle who is working abroad. Due to his lack of availability here the RC expired in 2023 and now I have decided to renew it and make use of it rather than let it simply gather dust. So far I know the following (though not fully clear as people/agents tend to just throw these words without taking the time to explain what it is). There is RC (Registration Certificate), FC (Fitness Certificate) and I guess Green Tax? The Green Tax is paid while the initial purchase is made and the initial RC is valid for 15 years then after that we gotta renew it and get a FC (cause old vehicle). I know that the penalty per month is 300/- if renewing after the expiry date, what is not clear to me is the upper limit for the renewal of old vehicles? Till what date and duration can we continue to use a vehicle? Cause I have read from sources like Times of India that the Govt is drafting a bill regarding the scrapping of old vehicles above 15 years to reduce pollution (which is a totally valid concern we don't want Hyderabad to become like Delhi in terms of air pollution) If the government laws mandate for older vehicles to be scrapped then I would rather now waste my money in paying the late penalty fees (which is a lot at the moment) and the RC and FC fees.

I really would appreciate if someone can shed some light on the above issue and make things a little bit clear for me.

PS - Why are these processes not made simple for the common man T_T
