Struggling in audit

Career

I am a first year audit associate at a mid-tier firm and it has been really hard on me. I have been here almost 1 year and I still feel like I am taking way too long to process information told to me and even simple tasks have numerous mistakes and errors. I am giving it everything I have but I am starting to think this career of auditing is not for me.

It has taken a hit on my mental health as well. Every day I open my laptop I am scared of what sudden call or meeting has been set up so my senior and/or manager can chew me out. Every day is a struggle at this point and its not even because I don’t know what I’m doing. I have all CPA parts passed its not like I’m clueless on accounting topics and principles. I am just struggling to apply them at my job and after almost a year I feel like everyone is losing patience with me.

What should be my next steps? Should I try to keep going and improve as best as I can or just begin looking into other careers in accounting? I just want to feel comfortable in a work environment again and not sweating everytime my senior/manager is reviewing my work.

I apologize for the long post I’m just having a really hard time.
