Might just be the worst job I've ever had
And I've had alot of jobs. Target is my 7th job in 3 years. I applied as a seasonal fulfillment team member and I genuinely think I made a mistake. I've worked for other big companies before like Disney but never have I ever seen this kind of chaos, disorganization, and disrespect in a billion dollar company.
My first day was already a red flag. My trainer didn't even know he was training someone that day and throughout the day he kept telling me to be quicker on OPU (my first batch btw). When i asked him questions he would literally chuckle, glaze over an explanation, then speed walk to the next item. Like what. I basically had to teach myself how to use the Zebra because no one would help me. Not to mention getting in trouble for not answering on the walkie when they were mispronouncing my name. Honestly should've been my last day but damn I'm broke.
Second day was even worse. I was supposed to do cashier training and it took management 30 minutes to find someone to train me I kid you not. I was basically being escorted through the whole store looking for me to be the next persons problem. When I did finally get to the cashier training, my cashier trainer (shoutout the only good person in that store) kept telling me about people leaving their cashier lanes and he'll have to close by himself. He's worked for Target for 52 years and this is how he's treated. He told me that everyone at the store is basically selfish and rude people just there for the paycheck and no one respects each other. After taking my break after cashier training, I wandered around for 30 minutes with a manager trying to figure out what i was supposed to train on next. I literally but a stopwatch on my phone and from the moment i got from break to my next trainer was 37 minutes. One TL wasn't sure what training I was supposed to get, another one didn't even know they were training someone that day, and the last one just dropped me off to a trainer and left.
I realized I was training in GM later but after 10 minutes of showing me how to pull product he said, "Great well you can finish up here I have to take my 30". I finished the pulls at 3:30 when he was supposed to get back and he came back at 3:50. The only reason he came back was to tell me that he had to do computer training for the last 10 of his shift then he's going home. There's absolutely no fucking shot that's just normal and okay to do right? This man keeps telling me to just keep pulling dry grocery (i didn't know there were other types of things to pull like baby and stuff) so I got told off by a manager for that too. After explaining to them this was the first time I was doing pulls, they took my Zebra and just started pressing buttons and handed it back to me and told me to just pull what's on the screen. I have never ever in my life wanted to walk out on a job so bad in my life.
After my only two days of training (I think that's the craziest part tbh), I was put in OPU. I was mostly doing gen merch because grocery is timed and i don't know the store well enough yet. After a while, there was only one grocery batch left so I decided to take it because that's my job or whatever. I went 5 minutes over. After I was done putting away the OPU, my TL pulls me aside and tells me that I need to be quicker on OPU. He tells me guest satisfaction is more important and they have an expectation for us.....like man what. It was literally 5 minutes. Also not to mention this is my second day on OPU and he's telling me that if I keep missing deadlines he's gonna have to write me up. THIS HAS LITERALLY NEVER HAPPENED TO ME WHAT.
Then came Black Friday. I went in at 3am and I was assigned to OPU. The third time I've ever done it at this point and I've been here for 3 weeks (one whole week was literally just GM). We finish the morning OPUs pretty quickly so we're chillin for a bit. I asked my TL what I could do and she said I could pick. I'm helping out pack because there's over 50 carts to pick so yeah I'm gonna help. After I was halfway done with my cart, she calls me over the walkie telling me I needed to go back to OPU immediately. My b I can't be in two places at once okay. I start the gen merch OPU batch with 40 minutes left and 46 items, I was literally being set up to fail. 20 minutes left on the batch and I'm down to two possible INFs. I find my TL and ask her what to do and she basically just tells me to keep looking and that's what I do. Only one INF later and after putting everything away I was 7 minutes over, I turn around and see the TL that talked to me about being late before. He was waiting for me to finish before he told me that I really needed to step up my game because it was unacceptable being late on batches. He was like, "Remember what we talked about last time, you can ask for help and we'll help you." I tell him bullshit and it takes everything in me not to scream in his face or start sobbing. I tell him that I did look for help, I did get help, and I was still late on the batch still.
At this point, I'm starting to cry a little and he looks me dead in the face and says "You need to calm down and take a deep breath. If you're so overwhelmed, you can just go pack." 1. Don't ever tell a lady or anyone period to "calm down". 2. I've been awake since 2:30am and forced to come to this hell forgive me if I'm a literally overwhelmed and I have tears 3. The answer was not to hide me and give up on me. I've never talked back to a manager before but this time i did and stood my damn ground. I said I didn't feel like I could ask him because he literally said in the morning he's gonna be super busy so ask another TL if possible. He said, "But did you call over the walkie?" You mean the walkie that no one responds to? The walkie that people will turn off so they don't have to do their jobs? Okay buddy sure. Also, why can't I just FIND someone to help me. I can't go up to a person and ask for their help???? So next time I need help I'll ask for him specifically. Also what am I supposed to say. "I need helping finding items?" for everyone to hear??? I'm so confused.
The only reason I'm staying is because I want to switch to another store that my friend is at eventually and also I need the extra money with my full time job not giving me the hours I need. I've already called out 3 days because everyone is literally just so awful and the hours are even worse. Lmk what ya'll think and also should I literally just dip and screw the paycheck? Thanksssss
