Sumeru = Teyvat's true lore? (Spoilers for Sumeru Archon quests)
I was thinking again about the Sumeru storyline and the parts that deal with forbidden knowledge, and a pattern came to mind when I compared it to the story of Nibelung, the HP, and the Voyager. Not in a literal way, but more like different characters filling the same kinds of roles in the same type of story, like hoyo likes to do. When you line up Deshret, Rukkadevata, and Nabu Malikata with those three, the parallels fall into place interestingly.
Deshret and Nibelung feel like they share the same role. Both reach far beyond what their world allows, both come into contact with abyssal knowledge, and both end up collapsing under it. What makes it interesting is that in both cases it comes from curiosity and the belief that they can help their people by breaking through those limits, not because they want power for its own sake. That combination leads them into a similar kind of downfall.
Rukkadevata and the HP also seem to hold equivalent roles. She is the one who tries to keep things stable when everything is falling apart. She sacrifices herself to protect the world and ends up reduced into Nahida. The HP possibly going through something similar to Paimon is already a popular theory, and the fact that the HP barely does anything anymore fits the idea that only a small remnant is left. And since people have pointed out the Paimon possibility for years now, it naturally fits
For this one I'm not entirely sure - but Nabu Malikata and the Voyager might share the same kind of role too. Both bring knowledge from outside the existing structure of the world they arrive in. Both speak of an older or different reality. Both end up changing everything simply by revealing information that wasn’t meant to be known.
Once I noticed these parallels, the official Sumeru history started feeling a bit too neat. The desert remembers one thing, the forest remembers another, and Irminsul has erased so much already that it’s hard to trust any version fully. Maybe this is why Nicole told us to trust only what we see with our own eyes - because maybe history as it is revealed to us in various sources isn't the real history, but rather the version of history that is currently written into Irminsul. It feels completely possible that the real sequence was something like Nibelung reaching too far into forbidden knowledge (which we know is true), HP trying to save everyone from the consequences, and then Irminsul rewriting the whole memory of the Teyvat to keep it from breaking apart and to keep the two sides of the world fighting each other instead of a different enemy. Since it already erased an Archon from existence, changing a historical narrative shouldn't be different
There’s also the idea that Nibelung’s rebellion might not have been directed at the HP to begin with. It could have been aimed at something above both of them - maybe some larger cosmic faction that the Voyager is accosiated with, and the story was rewritten later in Irminsul. If that is the case, then Deshret may have been influenced by the same higher force, believing he was challenging a cosmic authority when he was actually being used by something else entirely. It would mean that both stories are only fragments of a much larger system of powers we haven’t seen yet.
BONUS THEORY: In the Narkissenkreutz quest, Rene describes a Descender as someone who can create, destroy, protect, and sustain the world. That lines up very closely with the four shades of the HP. Creation fits Naberius and the life aspect. Destruction fits Ronova and the death aspect. Protection fits Istaroth and her dominion over time, especially in the moments she intervened to shield Inazuma, Enkanomiya, and Mare Jivari. Sustain(er) fits Asmoday and the stability of space itself.
