UK PCOS girlies who’ve been prescribed metformin

General/Advice

Hello everyone! I’m based in the UK and I’m interested in knowing what your experience has been since being diagnosed with PCOS. I was diagnosed at 21 and have been put on BC without any explanation of what PCOS even is. Years later I went to my GP again complaining about my symptoms and was told to go on birth control again. (Had previously stopped taking it as I was getting migraines) when I asked if my symptoms couldn’t meant that I had endometriosis, I was shut down. Anyway, after taking the mini pill for 2 years I decided to stop as I wasn’t feeling quite like myself.

I find that it’s incredibly difficult to lose weight. Now more than ever, even after changing my lifestyle - I’m the healthiest I’ve ever been, I’ve upped my protein intake and my fibre intake, I’m more active, I always walk for half an hour after my meals, I even started taking a berberine supplement. Nothing works. Weight went down about 2kgs since starting in May. I’m at my wits end and don’t know how to approach my GP and potentially even get to talk to an endocrinologist. I believe I have insulin resistance, but I’ve never been tested. (I did wear a CGM for a few months and it seems to have indicated that, but it’s not like I have medical training).

So! If you’ve read all the way to the end, thank you! My question for you now is : how did your experience go, how did you get your GP to listen to you and get you more tests and potentially even prescribe you metformin etc. ?
