Random connection leads to more - a real life story

So I was this 24 yr old guy, working as a Software Engineer. A total introvert nerd.

My interest was mastering UNIX shell script. I used to login to this server hosted by Univ of Maryland where you could open a guest account and practice unix shell script

The site also had discussion board and chat functions.

After a few months, I became quite confident in shell scripting and I started visiting the discussion board to respond to technical queories posted by other users. I noticed that one particular user had posted a series of n00b qns. I diligently responded to it.

After a few days again a set of n00b qn. I responded to it again

After a few days more. This time I private messaged that user - "Dude.. what's up with your qn.. they keep coming"

The user responded - "Thanks", and after a while added "I am not a dude"

I was like - yeah right. As far as I knew, all the users there were guys. Some guys were pretending to be girls. I thought this user was one of them. So I responded back "OK dude"

Few days later more qn. I responded .. and addressed with a "Dude". This really ticked off that user. Started messaging me "Do not call me Dude !!". I responded back "OK dude"

lol

And I added.. "if you want me to stop calling you dude, prove it. Call me at xxx-xxx-xxxx:

15 min later, there was a call. I heard a female voice. She was very angry.

Apparently she was in college. She was posting all assignment questions online .. and that particular day she was in a bad mood. I felt vert awkward. I apologized to her. Asked for her name. Turns out she was Korean.

(This was in US, in 1998)

Later she would msg me directly for her assignments. And I responded back .. via private message. We started chatting. She apologized for being so mad in the first call. She said she had no friends in college.

2 months later she said she was looking for internship but not having any luck. I said I can get her in my company, since I have a good relationship with my boss. It worked. She came over to my work on a 10 week internship.

During this time we became really good friends.

As I said, this happened in 1998. We got married in 2002.
