ThinkPad T460s – Trackpad/TrackPoint not detected (PS/2 mouse not detected )

Hi! I have a Lenovo ThinkPad T460s and I’ve been using it only with the touchscreen because both the TrackPad and TrackPoint stopped working about a year ago.

Every time I start the laptop, I see this message:

“PS/2 mouse not detected.”

In BIOS, both TrackPad and TrackPoint are enabled, but they still don’t work in Windows. In Device Manager, I can see several “HID-compliant mouse” entries and a Synaptics device, but nothing fixes it.

At the same time the TrackPad stopped working, my RAM suddenly dropped from 20 GB to 4 GB. Recently, without changing anything, my RAM went back to the full 20 GB and works normally again.

I took the laptop to a reparateur when the problem first happened, and he told me that the processor was damaged. But the laptop works perfectly boots normally, no crashes, and everything else functions fine so I’m not sure that diagnosis was accurate.
