For a building-focused playthrough, is it pointless to build too many things pre-Hardmode?

Ok maybe I'm overthinking this, but I read a random Youtube comment mentioning how it's pointless to build too many nice things pre-Hardmode, because the V can potentially wreck many of them as soon as you defeat the WoF. Is this true? I've got over 200 hours in my pre-Hardmode world and I was planning to go into Hardmode soon, but now I'm definitely worried.
