Add-ons to trip to Modena, Italy

My wife and I (newly retired) are staying in Modena Italy for a week in September 2026. We would like to extend the vacation - any recommendations on where and what to add to the itinerary? We love fine dining and arts - museums, architecture, etc. I prefer smaller cities or towns. We are open to nature and adventure activities but not as the main attractions. Thanks!
