Christmas slasher movies as jumping-off point for non-slasher Christmas movie recs

Discussion

I’m not much of a slasher movie fan, so it surprises me to be writing that two of my favorite new Christmas movies (“new” in the sense that I saw them for the first time recently) have plots centered on people gettin’ cut up. They are: CARNAGE FOR CHRISTMAS and IT’S A WONDERFUL KNIFE. Did anyone else see them and, if you did, how’d you like them?

I’d love some additional recommendations, but thinking about it, what I liked most about these two movies wasn’t the slasher aspects so much as the plot of going back home for the holidays, back to where the protagonist had been an outcast (because they were LGBTQ, a film geek, etc), but is now actually way cooler than those who tormented them.

That sounds incredibly specific, but I’ll bet there are movies out there that do that same thing and I’d like to hear about and see them someday. Thanks!
