Just had my first testicular ultrasound. Insurance was charged $4,710 and I owe $1,200 after insurance. Is there any way to contest this?
The specific CPT codes and corresponding charges are below. Several of these seem way above the national average, but this was performed in a nearby hospital, which I know can affect rates. My insurance is through Cigna.
"Hospital Services":
- $2730: CPT 93975: HC US Dup Abdpel Scrot Retr Complete
- $1775: CPT 76870: HC US Scrotal
"Physician Services":
- $80: CPT 76870: US Scrotum & Contents
- $225: CPT 93975: Dup-Scan Artl Flo Abdl/Pel/Scrot&/Rpr Orgn Com
Notably, they only scanned my scrotum, they did NOT perform an abdominal/pelvic scan. This made me question the use of 93975, but I've read online that it can be used for single-organ scans as well.
Any suggestions/advice is appreciated, even if it's "That looks correct, just pay it"
