The New FitBit AI is Unreasonably Positive About Everything
I've been using the new FitBit platform with "Coach" baked into everything. While I was initially impressed with it, there's a lot of issues that become clear after using it for a bit:
- The coach will over-index on single statements you make - like family visiting for the weekend, and include it in nearly every prompt.
- Coach only occasionally shows trends to you, which are the most insightful part.
- Descriptions of your workouts are often quite long without adding a ton of additional detail.
- Without diet information and endurance scores, there's only so much you can learn with AI.
- The workouts don't really map great to workouts you can start on the Pixel Watch.
But the worst offense is that it's EXTREMELY positive about literally anything you do. Run 5 miles? Great workout that really improves your cardiovascular fitness. Walk 30 minutes? Great reset! Sleep 6 hours? Good job recharging! Sleep 11 hours? Great strategic rest! Lift on a day you were supposed to run? Great switch-up!
It NEVER gives you constructive feedback using any data it has. It ONLY tells you how awesome you are.
