Oxford MFE Profile

Hi everyone, I just wanted to quickly run a scenario by anyone who might have some experience with the Oxford Msc in Financial Economics application and admission process and standards. I want to preface this by saying that I have a somewhat unusual profile with strong quantitative modules but a very weak GMAT Focus (which I don’t think is representative of my abilities but I don’t have time to re take).

So I scored only a 635 on the GMAT focus (I know, far below the average admitted student at Oxford MFE), however, I would really appreciate purely honest and not at all optimistic reviews of my profile it at all possible.

References:

  1. Partner and Head of ESG at a boutique MENA VC firm that I work at.

  2. Professor for Financial Econometrics at my university where I am finishing my BSc Management Course (Target UK university top 7 in Management/Finance).

  3. Professor for Financial Management from the same university (formerly, now a distinguished professor of finance and a different UK university)

Academic Profile:

  1. 45/45 perfect IBDP score (don’t know if this matters at all for MSc)

  2. First in all years of my university studies placing 1st/300 students in Financial Management and 4th/150 students in Financial Econometrics. Also 2nd/500+ students Second year average module grade.

Experience:

  1. Worked at a VC previous during my first year of university. Now work at a Boutique VC firm based in the MENA region and have been working there for around 6 months directly contributing to the investment committee’s decisions and evaluation.

  2. Worked at a FoodTech startup in Barcelona as a partner at the very launch of the company.

  3. Currently working on a “research venture” in the intersection of PropTech and fintech which is highly technical and financial in nature. I plan to make this a real venture as soon as I am finished with university.

Essay:

  1. I truly believe that my essay is very strong and unique in the way that it paints a very different story to the traditional IB/PE interns. I have a very focused career direction on VC and alternative finance, as well as my startup which ties directly into alternative finance. I think that it complements my work experience and my CV perfectly.

I think that is probably all that I can think of regarding my profile that would be important to mention. I am also applying to LBS MFA, LSE MSc Finance and Imperial MSc Finance. I would really appreciate any no bs, purely honest comments on the suitability of my profile. Thank you!
