Falling at my apartment
Location: Wisconsin
Context: Where I live, it snowed a lot. Like, over a foot of snow. I live in a Victorian house that was converted into apartments and has the typical front door, porch, and steps to the sidewalk. When I needed to take my small 9lb dog out, I had to physically carry my dog through piles of snow on my own porch and steps to go to the bathroom where someone shoveled. I would’ve done it myself but all of the stores were sold out of shovels and I couldn’t physically drive anywhere. In the beginning of my lease, i was told the downstairs tenant is in charge of snow removal, but the company said they maintenance would also come? Idk. Just context I guess.
Anyways: this morning (36 hours after snowfall finished falling), I had to take my dog on a walk. I went to go down the stairs, slipped on sheer ice/snow, and hit my head and hip extremely hard. My dog got off leash as I attempted to get up, and he nearly ran into traffic. Thankfully, a kind neighbor was walking by and grabbed my dog.
I am not new to Wisconsin so I know how hard working our maintenance and plow people are. However, this was probably the longest and worst I’ve seen an apartment get in my entire life in terms of snow maintenance. I might have a concussion and significant bruising on my body. Is there anything I can do about this with my landlord or my neighboring tenant? I’m extremely upset and frustrated, especially with what could’ve happened in terms of my dog’s or my wellbeing.
