BetterMe: Somatic Hip Opening Exercises
Somatic hip exercises combine slow, intentional movements + body awareness + gentle stretching or breathwork to help release that tension, improve mobility, and even help free up emotional tension stored in the hips.
π§ββοΈ Sample somatic hip-opening moves you can try
- Hip Circles β stand with feet hip-width, gently circle your hips slowly in one direction, then the other. Focus on smooth, fluid motion and notice where you feel tightness.
- Hip Flexor Release β lie on your back, knees bent, extend one leg and gently draw the other knee toward your chest; hold, breathe, then switch. Good for releasing tight hip-flexors from sitting too much.
- Pelvic Tilts β lie down with knees bent, then slowly tilt your pelvis backward and forward (flatten lower back β arch slightly), tuning in to the sensations and movement in your lower back and hips.
- Mind-body hip stretches or somatic yoga-style hip openers β slow, mindful hip-opening postures done with awareness, not force (like gentle hip-openers and floor work) to release tension gradually.
ββ Did you notice any emotional or mental changes (relaxation, calm, release) after doing somatic movements for your hips?
