Meta Discussion

I've been really enjoying this game and was curious what meta strategies you all implement in your run. I'll start with some:

  • Experience can be converted into cheese by replacing a morsel that has gained experience. Especially early on, it's probably a good idea to see what items are in the shop before getting a new morsel card, you never know if you'll need that extra bit if cheese.

  • Experience will eventually be used to retire your morsels and turn into a morsel specific item. Personally, I like the three starter items the best (Gummsel, Widsel, and Smugsel), so I'll try and retire one of those first. I think full XP close to retirement will reward about 200 cheese, so the question you have to ask yourself is if the cheese is better spent elsewhere. Any other notable retirement items people are having success with?

  • Widsel's retirement item is one of the best items in the game. I just mentioned it, but it's good enough to have its own bullet point. It gives a huge burst of damage to every character's special after you pick it up. Gosel without that item is a great utility morsel, but with it Gosel becomes quite literally the best unit in the game, with a quick charging long ranged special that can delete any unit safely inside of a wall.

  • A lot of my play style revolves around special spam, so rotating your morsels and spamming their special is actually pretty good. I really like Morsels with fast charging specials (uggsel, crotsel, and gosel). One of my first goals in a run is getting widsels retirement item online to give every special in the game insane offensive potential.

  • Critical hits are very important. It's one of the few things that you can scale with stat ups (special too, but see the above points on how important I consider special). Some of the morsels are really fun to try and optimize with their crits. Fleesel bank shots feel amazing. Crotsels can be tricky to land, but it seems enemies for his very good special. Smugsel crit dashing is a very fun and effective playstyle. There's also sometimes items that are hidden behind a box that'll only break with a critical hit.

  • Daisy Vampire is the best item in the game. I try and buy out the expensive items in the shop to churn those items until Daisy vampire shows up. Turning your morsels into cheese instead of retiring them is an interesting decision that might influence how many shop items you'll be able to buy.

  • Consider the morbs when drafting your morsels. In case you weren't aware, the morbs will tell you if their activated via crit, dash, or getting hurt. The telefrag skill turns your crits into an insta kill on almost every single enemy (even those high health wizard dudes). A good crit morb can be incredible depending on the morsel. A lot of the hurt morbs really suck like home and teleport, so I try to avoid those.

  • Fuzzy meta (stat ups). I like dash, crit, special, and speed. Daisy chain, tofu, and pitiful are not worth the cheese IMO.

  • Curse meta. The egg units get the syringe buff that makes them immune to curses. Obviously that's situationally useful for getting rid of that cursed powerup item and going for eating curse clouds (although those still might deal damage), but I need to try and grab those post boss curses and get a cursed egg run going. It's probably not very good. If I don't have an egg unit, I'll throw a curse on hoggsel (he seems the least affected by them) or I'll curse a unit close to retiring, or one that I was going to cash in for cheese anyways.

  • Post boss curses. I haven't really experimented a lot with these so I'm curious if I'm missing anything with them. Like I said above, if I've got a couple egg units, I might try and get a curse run going, but overall they seem really punishing for not that much of a reward.
