[Online][5e 2014][GMT+8, Wednesdays/Sundays at 9pm] Spelljammer: The Astral Empire; Looking for 1-2 Players to Join a Long Campaign
Two players in the campaign I’m GMing had to step away for work, so I’m looking for two new players interested in a 5e game with a space-opera vibe featuring Spelljammers and custom mechs.
I’m a relatively new DM, but I do my best to accommodate my players. The campaign uses Light of Xaryxis as a chassis, though I’ve changed several story beats and lore elements, such as Netheril lore and .
Campaign Genre: Space Opera, Space Fantasy, Adventure
VTT: Roll20 + Discord, with DnDBeyond. Voice Chat only.
Schedule: Every Wednesday or Sunday Night at 8:30-9:00pm, GMT+8 Asia
What you'll start with:
- Level 5
- 1 free feat (DM discretion)
- 1 common magic item tied to your backstory (improves over time)
Current 4 players are all men (mostly 20+) to help with expectations. We always try to respect one another, and a little bit of banter is normal between us. We have 2 artificers, a ranger, and a druid with us.
Hook:
1500 DR. On the eve of a new century, the floating city of New Nimbral rings in the new year with fireworks. The spectacle illuminates the massive crystal at the city's core, which supports both the settlement and the Academy above it.
You mingle with townsfolk, celebrate the graduation of new cadets, or simply take part in the festivities for your own reasons. As you welcome the new year, brilliant lights fall from the sky, another spectacle, it seems. But these lights aren’t fireworks. They’re meteorites.
When they crash into the city, crystalline vines burst forth, reaching skyward. Their roots dig deep, spawning countless crystalline monsters. All around you, people are petrified into eerie, perfect crystal statues.
High above, in the shadows of the night sky, several Spelljammers marked with the symbol of a Solar Dragon release these meteorites. Their purpose is unclear, but peace isn't one of them.
Game Style:
- 5e rules, with some 5.5e rules ported. Characters using 5.5e is allowed.
- Combat 60%, with the rest being roleplay and light exploration in-between combat.
- Ship combat is mostly null, players will be given access to personal vehicles for use during Wildspace and Astral Sea combat.
- Sessions will focus on the party’s journey to stop the Xaryxian Empire from turning New Nimbral and other settlements into a crystalline hellish landscape by preventing their influence.
- The story can get a bit linear, though generally I try to let my players decide on what they want to unless they're not sure what to do.
Types of Players I'm Looking for:
Who this campaign is for:
- Any players looking to roleplay with some humor but don't shy away from more serious moments.
- Comfortable with homebrew items and mechanics (mostly from the aforementioned ship combat) without looking to break the game.
- Light-hearted banter is fine, but keep instigating or PvP off the table.
- Minimal puzzle content, mostly stuff that gets foreshadowed will be shown later.
Characters:
- Allowed sources: All sources available in my DnDBeyond campaign with the exception of Critical Role content.
- No evil characters.
- Must have a reason to care to save the world or fight the Xaryxian Empire.
About me:
I'm a new DM, I started this year. I'm looking to improve my skills, and I believe there's no better way than to do it. I’ve always loved fantasy, sci-fi, and space operas like Star Trek, Elden Ring, and Kirby. While I try not to lean too heavily on outside influences such as video games and movies, they do sometimes slip into my games.
If you're interested or have any questions about the campaign, feel free to DM me or comment down so I can elaborate. If you prefer to talk over in Discord though, let me know so I can drop my Discord User ID.
