Retired. SBLOC to defer capital gains tax ?
I am retired and luckily have a good sized portfolio big enough that running out of money is not a concern.
My annual costs are covered by dividends and selling stock quarterly. Even though I do not have any worries about running out of money, I want to wise about handling tax.
Was considering opening a sercurities backed line of credit (SBLOC) to live off of, paying interest only monthly, in lieu of selling stock quarterly and paying sizeable capital gains tax annually.
From what I understand, if the market is returning above the sbloc rate, a sbloc is a good way to defer taxes to a later date when assets have grown.
I believe current sbloc rates are 1-2% above the sofr rate of 4%. If the sofr goes to 3% or lower, the sbloc seems like good idea.
