How open (or private) are people in your country/region/culture?
At least from your perspective, what are people in your country/region/culture like when it comes to what is talked about openly, and what is kept private (or at least treated carefully)?
What prompted me to ask: I recently went through a difficult medical situation that isn’t shameful, but also isn’t spoken about very openly. My husband and I confided in a handful of friends, who have all been very kind and supportive. One guy in particular has been especially forward and direct; he isn’t an insensitive person at all, but he hasn’t tiptoed around the subject like others have. (For example: Yesterday, in a room full of people, he asked me how my body has been feeling.) My husband and I were talking about it, and I opined that perhaps it has something to do with him being from a different country of origin, and that maybe certain things are just spoken about more openly.
