I need help with motivation

I find it hard to want to be ambitious when the enemies are hard enough to deal with without some guy phasing into existence just to kill me. I don't feel like I should even try because when I bring out anything good. I just die to some bs, the same enemy that died to 7 shots of ferro survived a fireball burner and 9 shots of anvil and I thought those 2 guns were the same damage? Is this what the endgame is supposed to be?
