Apartment Utilities and Management
Hello All!
I am currently in the location: texas and within the last year, have moved into my first apartment complex. (F25) As of the last 2 months I have noticed that there has been an extra $180 added to my utilities. When I went into the office in october to pay my rent a red flag was raised when it wasnt my typical payment but due to it being Halloween, the entire office was full of people having chats and just having a lil party, I didnt wanna be a bother and I figured Id ask later. This morning, I called and asked how much my total would be so that I could turn in a check by the end of the day and it was unreasonably high. I asked what caused this and I was told that they hadnt been charging me for certain utilities and had just realized so that started adding it to my account. I moved in march, and this started in october. When I first moved into this place there was little damage, such as a hole in the wall from a TV mount, and the carpet was torn up a bit but I decided to just fix those myself and ended up doing so. Well, the blinds in the livingroom had been damaged a bit and I knew that it was part of my lease somewhere that I would be taking over the property that the last tenant had left but they waited 4 months after I moved in to send me a bill of $80 for the blinds in EACH (3) room. I fought that, letting them know only the livingroom area had damaged blinds and it was a singular blind torn from the end. I was told not to worry about them at all and the that it would be situated. Im not really sure what to do or say? I feel like Im being taken advantage of but also Ive never rented/owned before so I could honestly be at fault. I just need a second opinion.
Thank you in advance!
