Non-stimulant ADHD med similar to Vyvanse
Hello everyone,
On October 11th, my husband unfortunately experienced an acute phase of psychosis/paranoia. It was multi-factoral, but the main culprits being that he was cutting his extended release Vyvanse pill in half some days and vaping weed pens (along with a major life stressor happening).
He was in inpatient for 3.5 weeks and has been home for 3.5 weeks. His psychosis is completely managed on the Haldol antipsychotic and I can safely say he's made a full recovery minus some major anxiety stemming from him currently being unmedicated for his ADHD. And the side effects of the antipsychotics and Klonopin they currently have him on are causing sedation and almost depression-like moods.
He was on Wellbutrin and Vyvanse prior, both that he wants to be back on desperately. He sees his psychiatrist tomorrow and plans to express this to them right away, but I'm terrified that their answer about the Vyvanse is going to be no. He will spiral.
The antipsychotics suppresses the dopamine that was firing off like crazy during the psychosis, and Vyvanse being a stimulant is going to do the opposite. So I doubt they're going to let him jump back into that.
I want to go to his appointment prepared. Has anyone been a non-stimulant drug for ADHD that is similar to Vyvanse? If so, what was it?
