Is going into surgery really THAT bad for female doctors/future doctors?

I’ve set my mind on actually going to med school after my BSN. I have a sister who just finished her PGI this year and when we were talking about her future in medicine, she shared her uncertainties about going into surgery even though she loves it. Sabi niya, since it’s male-dominated, ang dami niyang nakakasamang babae na taken advantage of in some way by their male seniors or surgeons (sexual harassment, threats, etc.).

Recently din, I had my clinical rotation where my preceptor asked what field I plan to specialize in since I’m going to med school too. I said, bata pa lang ako, hindi ko na makita yung sarili ko sa ibang field kundi surgery lang. And her immediate response was, “sure ka na ba dun? It’s a male-dominated field and maraming nabubully na female surgeons.”

See I’ve been trying to figure out still yung field na gusto ko and for now surgery lang talaga. Maybe I’ll figure it out during med school and PGI na mismo pero it makes me sad lang na everyone is warning me about these things. Lowkey feeling like I have to give up on something I’ve been wanting my whole life because I might have a bad experience with working with men.

Can anyone tell me if it’s true? Would love to hear first-hand experience from female med students too. Is/was surgery also your first choice and has med school changed your options so far? Thank you.
