BetterMe: Different Types of Workouts
Thinking of starting a fitness routine but not sure what type of workout fits you best? It helps to understand that there are several main kinds of exercise — and mixing them up can give you the best overall results.
🔄 The 4 Main Types of Workouts (And Why They Matter)
- Aerobic / Endurance (Cardio) — walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, dancing, etc. These workouts boost heart and lung health, improve stamina, can support weight loss, help regulate blood pressure and blood sugar, and even support immune function.
- Strength / Resistance Training — using bodyweight, free weights, resistance bands or machines to build muscle and strength. Great to maintain muscle mass (which declines with age), improve bone density, support metabolism, and enhance functional strength for daily tasks.
- Balance Exercises — movements focused on coordination and stability. Especially useful as we age or if we want to prevent falls, improve posture, and strengthen the stabilizing muscles.
- Flexibility / Mobility Work — stretching, yoga or mobility drills that increase range of motion, help joints stay healthy, and reduce muscle tightness or injury risk. Great complement to strength and cardio training.
❔❔ Do you struggle to stick with a “balanced” workout routine — if yes, what stops you, and how could you change that?
