Is team concentration a problem?

It's no secret that there used to be a lot more teams in NASCAR, but I'm not sure that everyone realizes just how much the sport has concentrated down to a handful of organizations. If you go back to the 80s, multi-car teams barely existed. It was common to see 40 different organizations field full-time entries. We saw teams teams start to grow in the 90s, with Roush being a 5 car organization by the end of the decade. That trend continued through the 2000s and 2010s, with there only being 19 full-time organizations by 2015 with most fielding multiple cars. The charter system exasperated this further, with the number of organizations falling down to 13 today. It feels like the lack of parity we see these days really boils down to the fact that there are so few teams, and the manufacturers have picked their favorites. If you aren't Penske, Gibbs, or Hendrick, the system is basically built for you to fail. I can't help but feel like things would be better if we still had 30 teams that would only field 1 or 2 cars.
