Is it worth being a sea raider?

If you piss off a faction by raiding them, before joining a kingdom, you have to pay them off for peace if you ever want to join a faction. Is the money you make raiding more than what you will have to pay to settle peace? I was wanting to try a Nordic sea pirate playthrough but wasn't sure of consequences.
