What Jokes Only Work in Your Accent - Not Language… Accent

Language

This is an obscure one, but I saw an American make a joke on a WWII subreddit and it took me like 5 minutes to understand it because I read it in my Australian accent and the joke only works if you’re American

If you know WWII you’d get it but it’s basically… “Why did the Germans never find out who ‘Z’ was? Because so many people were busy declaring themselves as “Not Z”!”

Meaning Nazi… that’s the joke… because in American “Not Z” is pronounced “NAAT ZEE”

But, in my Australian accent “Not Z” is pronounced as “N-AUR-TT ZED”… so, jokes won’t work on me!

I’ve tried racking my brains for ages but don’t know any purely for the Australian accent as too many words plays sound like British RP, Cockney, NZ, South African etc.

I guess the best reverse for all those accents that won’t work for Americans and Canadians would be this terrible joke

“We were on safari and a lion started chasing us. We realised we dropped the car key while we were running away and were locked out, I watched my mate rip off his shorts and put them against the door and it unlocked… thank god he decided to pack his Khaki shorts”

Americans won’t get that joke cause they pronounce Khaki as “Kakee” but for the rest of those accents it is pronounced as “Kah-Key” so sounds exactly like… Car Key

But yeah got me thinking there must be a million in particular for languages like Spanish where a word play joke would work in Spain and make no sense in Chile and definitely.
