Question: Strange happenings...

Every night when I shut down for the night, the last thing I do is to check that the VPN logo is active and connected. I'm sure I did that last night. This morning when I turned things back on and checked Proton, the VPN was off, but it showed that it was last used on a Bulgarian connection. I am not in Bulgaria, and I've never used a Bulgarian setting. Of course, I panicked, but it's difficult if not impossible to find someone to communicate with at Proton. Should I be concerned that I've been hacked? It seems like I have been but I don't know what to do about it. >!​!<
