Is cyborg class really worth it?

I have 600 gems and I'm trying to decide what class to get. Most people say cyborg.

But whenever I have the laser cannon in game like from chests, I really hate it. You need to wait so long to take a second shot, it recharges so slow, it doesn't even do that much damage compared to how long you need to wait to take more shots. Other things do more dps.

With the actual cyborg class, is the cannon better? Does it do more damage or recharge faster?

If it's the same as when you just get it normally as any other class then I think I'll regret buying it. What other class would be the next best?
