Songmont + Margiela
L: Songmont 'Drippy' in ivory - R: Maison Margiela '5AC East West in macassar'
Key notes for me:
| Songmont Drippy | Maison Margiela 5AC East West |
|---|---|
| Purchased in Shanghai at 60% off GRP + additional 10% discount | Purchased in Seoul at RP w/ tax refund at departure |
| Fits much more than it looks; on one day I stored a water bottle, an umbrella, and my long wallet | Similarly voluminous interior, but haven't tried to stuff this bag yet |
| Wide, adjustable strap + top handle for multiple ways to wear/carry comfortably | Thin, adjustable, detachable strap + top handles; best for hand carry |
| Zip closure; can be hidden by magnetic flap top | Zip closure; can be extended for more space, or folded over if not needed |
| Exterior pockets on each side for easy access to daily items like phone, transit card, lip balm | No exterior pockets |
| Synthetic leather lining | Polyester lining |
| Color is more like cream; pretty IRL but easy to dirty/scuff | Gorgeous, buttery goat leather exterior in mahogany/brown mix |
| Main logo tab is small and discernible only on bottom center of front | Label and iconic four stitches can be hidden by folding over the zip closure |
Because I bought the Drippy early on during my two-week trip, I've used it a lot more--practically every day. It's such an easy, no-fuss bag that I think it's going to become a part of my regular rotation. I actually wanted the jade (light green) color, but it wasn't available.
I also wanted a different color for the East West, but this 'macassar' is so lovely. I'm looking forward to using this bag more often.
