Save and quit before the wisp step

Can you save and quit before doing the last step of Ashes’ Easter egg?

I just did it and when I loaded back in, Klaus wasn’t on the docks. Also the projector’s screen was all white and by shooting the clocktower in ashwood my ww became purple. Does it mean I just have to do the Lakewood step? (Or does the screen stays white after doing it?)
