What Made You Realize You Might Be Autistic?
This is our very first community discussion thread, so I wanted to start with something many of us hold close.
For a lot of Black autistic adults, the moment of realization isn’t straightforward. Sometimes it was: • finally seeing yourself in someone’s story • learning about masking • noticing sensory differences • struggling in work or school in ways no one explained • or hitting burnout one too many times
For others, it was a late diagnosis, a teacher’s comment, a partner noticing patterns, or a moment of deep self-reflection.
✨ What was your moment? Was it a trait? A situation? A memory? A pattern you finally connected?
Share as much or as little as you want — this is a safe space.
There is no “right” way to realize you’re autistic. Every story belongs here. 🖤♾️
