parking tips for thursday night at the fights at william a egan civic and convention center (anchorage ak 12/04)

hey fight fans, figured i'd share some parking tips for the thursday night at the fights on 12/04, since downtown anchorage can be a nightmare if you don't know the drill. the egan center itself doesn't have a dedicated garage, so you're fighting for spots with the whole downtown crowd, plus it’s december in alaska so covered parking is a huge win.

before diving into the garages, honestly the easiest way to skip all the fuss is an app like prked. i'm not trying to sell you on it, but it lets people in the surrounding downtown neighborhood rent out their private driveways or garages for the night. it’s usually way cheaper than event parking, right next to the venue, and you just walk right past the traffic backup on 5th avenue. check it first, you might snag an awesome spot a block away.

now for the public parking options, they are all run by easypark (acda) and there are a ton of them close by. the best news is the event starts at 7:30 pm, and all the metered street parking is free after 6 pm monday-friday . this is your best value play. however, it is winter and between october 1 and april 30, anchorage enforces snow removal bans, so you absolutely must check signs to make sure you aren't on a designated snow route or you will get a $200 fine and towed . don't risk it for a free spot if it looks like a tow zone.

your safest bet is one of the covered garages right near the egan center. the main ones are the 5th & b street garage (huge with 1,160 spaces) , the jc penney garage, and the 6th & h street garage . they are all 24-hour . the rate is generally about $2.00 per hour for public parking . if you use the garage, make sure you pay inside or at the main machine because the exit gates might not take coin or cash, they prefer credit card or tap payment . getting there around 6:30 or 7:00 pm will put you ahead of the rush for the 7:30 start and give you time to get your ticket and find your seat without stress.

if you decide to park on the street and you're paying a meter before 6 pm, you can use the easypark app (paybyphone/parkmobile) to feed it from your phone, which is helpful . seriously though, pay attention to the snow signs. nothing ruins a great night of fights like coming back to an empty parking spot.

hope this helps and you enjoy the show!
