100K ISA Strategy -10yr horizon ?
👑 £100k ISA Strategy (10-Year): Best Global Tracker & Lump Sum vs Drip-Feed?
Hi everyone,
I’m about to invest £100,000 into a S&S ISA with a 10-year growth horizon. I want a simple, global, set-and-forget approach that’s as low-cost as possible. I’d really appreciate views on three things:
1. Fund Choice – is cheaper actually better here?
I’ve narrowed it down to FTSE All-World accumulating trackers:
- HSBC FTSE All-World – OCF 0.13%
- Vanguard FTSE All-World (VWRP) – OCF 0.22%
On paper, HSBC looks like the obvious winner over 10 years purely on cost. But a lot of people still default to Vanguard.
- Is the concern about HSBC’s tracking error genuinely strong enough to justify the extra 0.09% OCF for Vanguard?
- Has anyone run actual return comparisons between the two?
2. Is there a better global setup I’m missing?
Are these really the best options for simple global diversification, or is there a smarter route? For example:
- MSCI World + Emerging Markets combo
- Any other lower-cost global alternative that’s worth considering
I’m open to other options if there’s data or a clear rationale behind them.
3. Deployment strategy & platform costs
a) Lump sum vs drip-feed
With £100k, is it still sensible to ignore nerves and invest it all at once, or would you:
- Spread it over 3–6 months to reduce bad-timing risk?
- Or even longer?
b) Cheapest UK platform at this level
For a £100k+ ISA in one of these funds, which UK platforms work out cheapest once you factor in both:
- Platform fees, and
- The fund’s OCF?
I’m assuming a fixed-fee broker will be better at this size, but would be great to hear which ones people are actually using for this kind of setup.
Thanks in advance for any input.
