Is Lvl1 Hackerspace a good place to make friends and get into crafts?

I'm looking to get social and also maybe learn some woodworking or something like that over time. I saw on their website that they have open meetings on Tuesdays. I just don't know much about it.

Is it social? And can a total newcomer show up?
