What do you do with a disabled husband who refused to do anything to earn money?
My husband has serious chronic back pain. He can’t get disability (I won’t be discussing why), so he has no income from the government. He’s highly educated and genuinely skilled in his field, but for the eight years since he stopped being able to work, he’s shut down every attempt to help him find some way to earn money.
I work for both of us as a home health aide and bring in about $1,000 a month. It’s been eight years, and he still refuses to try anything that might bring in income. He helps around the house, but outside of a few chores that take him all day, he literally does nothing. He watches TV and honestly feels more like a teenager than a 53-year-old man.
He is sweet and polite, but like a Teflon pan, he somehow slides his way out of getting an income like no one I’ve ever met. You can’t pin him down to an agreement no matter what I do or say.
- I do not want questions about why he doesn’t have disability. Any comments about SSI/SSD will be ignored.
- Do not ask why I don’t leave him. Any comments suggesting I leave will also be ignored.
Tl:Dr My husband has wiggled his way out of getting an income for eight years no matter what I say or do.
How do I get my disabled husband to agree to get an income?
