Looking for people interested in a pro-housing advocacy group
To the best of my knowledge, Malden does not have any kind of pro-housing/YIMBY/zoning reform advocacy groups. Since I've been complaining about these topics for a while now and I keep running into people who share these views, I'm trying to organize this into an actual group. I've already got quite a few leads of interested parties, but given the sub's clearly favorable view I'm reaching out here to see if anyone else is interested in joining. I am already planning to meet with some similar groups in nearby cities like Somerville and Cambridge, plus some Malden politicians/community organizers who have expressed support for these types of policies.
I am going to schedule a first meeting sometime in January. I don't want to dictate plans for this being part of a specific organization like the YIMBY Action group or Strong Towns. My plan here is just to bring together, and let the group decide how to organize/specific goals. Please let me know if you want to join the first meeting (I might follow up with a survey to figure out the best timing).
Personally I want to advocate for things like upzoning, removing parking minimums, and mixed-use development. Malden has considered several of these policies in recent years, and is currently working on a Master Plan that would involve reworking our existing zoning.
TLDR: I am trying to start a pro-density housing group for Malden, with a first meeting in January. If you are interested in this, please explicitly tell me so in a comment or DM.
