I have to steal five minutes here and there to make stuff. I generally throw up a plastic table to work on in my back yard (terraced property). My wife keeps catching me drilling on her work surfaces, which is not ideal. I look forward to having a shed in the future when can afford a bigger property!

Stool;
- utilised dowels (learnt the hard way the difficulty keeping things straight trying to use hand drill and not drill press).
- Ended up driving a few confirmat screws from the side. To cover these I drilled 20mm forstener bit and 20mm pine plug
- countersunk a few screws using a new countersink bit - came with a plug cutter so drilled a few plugs from some exotic dark hardwood piece and glued them into recess.
- satin clear poly finish
Reflection- cool to just crack on and make a stool not following any plan. I actually salvaged this timber from a door that I kicked down to rescue my toddler, so it’s nice it’s a stool for him.
Part of learning woodworking for me has been to accept imperfections and learn from each mistake. No one is actually looking at the mistakes when overall it’s something to be proud of.

Toddler table - made from hardwood ply. My own design (was originally going to by metal legs and attach, thought fuck it I can make some cool ones from off cuts.
- wanted to try pocket hole joinery. Absolutely class in my opinion. So easy once you work out how to use a jig. I used a single trend jig. I tried to use the fine thread screws (for hardwoods) but realized I should have been using coarse quite quickly.
- clear satin poly finish
- reflection: I really love plywood furniture. This was a thoroughly enjoyable piece to make.
