sponsor help or recognition

i’m a decent surfer, do a few comps and come semis but still don’t have any sponsors or anything. i know im not going to make surfing as a living but i still wouldn’t mind a local board sponsor or two. do you guys think getting a gopro and making videos would help gain recognition and help me gain something from doing the thing i love a lot?
