Is calling Chrono Trigger the best JRPG in history kinda a tourist take?

It just doesn’t feel right for Chrono Trigger to be seen as the best exponent of the genre when it’s so light and simplistic in terms of gameplay; it isn’t something that really fleshes out what the genre has to offer. Chrono Trigger feels more like the ultimate JRPG for people who only care about the story and don’t want the gameplay to get in the way.

I've found even Pokemon games to be more engaging gameplay-wise.
