Some People Don’t Understand What “Barefoot” Means

I was in the dry sauna at the gym the other day. A guy asked me “does that hurt” as he looked at a very minor scrape on my big right toe (I scraped it on a cement step when I wasn’t paying attention… no big deal). This is a recreation of the convo: Him: does that hurt? Me: does what hurt? Him: your bunion. Me: I don’t have a bunion I simply scraped my toe. Him: does it hurt when you wear shoes? Me: I don’t wear shoes. Him: just slides? Me: I don’t wear slides either. Him: oh, so flip flops.

I stopped responding. Barefoot (to me) means “no shoes.” Not flip flops, slides, socks, barefoot shoe, etc. Am I the only one who thinks barefoot means barefoot?
