Do women nowadays still like the old fashioned type of guy?

Hi I'm a 54 male single from the uk and hoping one day i will find a lady but I need some advice. I'm a very affectionate cuddly type of bloke I buy flowers open doors, and pay for everything, for some reason this has been my downfall in past relationships, exes tell me your lovely you did nothing wrong but your to soppy, so do women prefer someone that's actually the total opposite of me? I've seen men out with the girls basically talking to them like dirt and still she holds his hand as they walk to the next pub. Am I doing something wrong I wouldn't say I'm soppy I just like buying her gifts and leaving little nice notes when I leave to go to work. Am I doing everything wrong?
