Geneva/Lausanne - Milan by Train - It keeps getting worse... Zurich - Milan - it keeps getting better.

My observation is that the connection between Geneva / Lausanne and Milan is getting worse every year, comparing to about 10 years ago.

(disclaimer: this is not a full schedule analysis - happy if anyone has done one)

Before the trip time Lausanne - Milan was 3h15 / 3h18 / 3h20 - now it's 3h40 (+20min).

Then, there used to be two direct morning trains: 6am and 8am from Lausanne. The 8am used to go onward direct to Venice.

Then 1-2 years ago it swapped and the 6am (too early) went onward direct to Venice.

Now it seems in 2026, there is only the 6am direct, 8am is gone.

You can leave at 6:48am but that take 4h02min with 1 change. No 8am option.

From the occasional trip, I observed the train is very busy or sold-out. There are tons of Italians in the region.

Meanwhile, Zurich - Milan, it's the opposite - more trains and shorter trip times over the years.

It sucks. Anyone else noticed?
