Working further on my homebrew script themed around french literature, we have the Phantom, representing both the eponymous character from Gaston Leroux's *Phantom of the Opera*, and even moreso the original phantom thief Arsène Lupin from Maurice Leblanc's classic short stories. The Phantom is a Minion with the ability: "*You start by choosing a player: they learn 1 of 2 players is a Phantom. If you are executed while they live, their team loses.*"

My goal here is an interesting minion that entails some heavy social play. I'm also inspired by the Evil Twin, and how polarizing (and unfun) it can be for many players; and so the Phantom is in some way an answer or a synthesis to that idea. When the Phantom picks a good player on night 1, they learn two possible Phantoms, and know that they themselves must die before whichever player is the real Phantom is executed. This inverts the Evil Twin paradigm, where a good player will be asking to be the one executed — and the evil Phantom can either claim to be the good player who got the Phantom's ping and ask to be executed, or claim to be off-ping.

My hope is that the agency provided to the Phantom's ping and the mystery of solving which of them is the Phantom will provide more enjoyable gameplay for both sides of the coin, and provide some intrigue around players asking for execution and playing quiet or loud.

Would you enjoy playing this character? Would you enjoy playing *alongside* this character, when you are not the Phantom nor the Phantom's ping yourself?
