3 months, no labels, good connection… but where does this kind of thing usually go?
TLDR: Seeing someone for 3 months, not casual but not defined. We get along, communicate well, and enjoy each other beyond sex. Had an honest talk about texting, but neither of us knows what we want. Unsure if this kind of connection grows, stays in limbo, or fades. Looking for others’ experiences.

I’ve been seeing someone for 3 months. We had sex since the first date, but the dynamic doesn’t feel purely casual. There’s chemistry, daily contact (usually just one or two messages), shared humour, and care. We went to the cinema together once and didn’t have sex that night. We genuinely enjoy each other’s company in a way that goes beyond the physical. We never sleep together because we both have sleeping issues… which honestly works for both of us.
At one point we had an honest talk about something that was bothering me. I told him that sudden shifts in texting rhythm make me question the emotional side of this. If what we have is “just casual”, maybe we were mixing things. He listened, didn’t dismiss anything, apologised, and made an effort to be clearer afterwards. No drama. The only thing is… he didn’t really clarify who I am to him either.
That conversation made me realise something else: I don’t actually know what I want. I like him, I like our connection, but the idea of committing scares me. At the same time, the ambiguity creates discomfort because I’d like to feel a bit more of a priority, even if I’m not a girlfriend. I suspect he might feel a similar conflict. We’re both independent, both comfortable, and both avoiding labels.
So here’s my question: when two people like each other but are unsure about commitment, does this usually evolve, stay in limbo, or fade? How do these “comfortable but undefined” dynamics normally play out? And do we really need labels? Sometimes it feels like what works best is simply enjoying the connection… but I’m trying to understand where this fits.
