The Great Generational Divide.

Discussion

2007 borns were born in the LAST year before the way children grew up shifted drastically. They remember a pre-smartphone dominated world, where social media didn’t take over anybody’s lives. They were Born before the FIRST iPhone. They experienced every last bit of old tech coming out of the 90s and in the early 2000s. Experienced COVID as a teenager. Peak childhood was in the early 2010s, with 2000s influence, as they watched everything in their houses and slowly saw everything change as the world shifted. Vaguely remembers the late 2000s (2009), while 2008 can't remember anything at all from the 2000s. Mobile technology became mainstream after most of their childhood. Can remember the countless news segments and studies talking about how younger kids and babies had technology at birth and the limit to technology. Started middle school in the 2010s. All pre-teen years in the 2010s. Had no AI in school until middle of sophomore year. 2008 borns were debatably in elementary school when Covid started. They missed CRUCIAL years of technology advancing and the world around them changing. Schools had shifted to chromebooks and iPads and had wide access to them for most of their elementary school experience. They don't remember smartboards first being installed in schools and the fall off of them. No millennial influence. No 2000s influence. Their siblings are most likely gen alpha. Did not remember the rise of streaming and cable fall off. The start of the iPad kids. Were babies when the iPad released in 2010. Grew up post-home phone era. Didn’t experience DVD’s to the fullest. They never experienced movie theaters being mainstream. They can’t remember any of the late 2000s. They were pure 2020s teens. Did not experience going outside all of their childhood, as they were the oldest in their childhood when COVID hit. All of high school having access to AI. Those are just a few differences which can be thought of in minutes. All of 2008 borns traits fit with early gen alphas. 2008 is the START of the Gen Alphas. 2007 is Core Gen Z, 2008 and any birthyears after that are undoubtedly Gen Alpha and will be more similar to Gen Beta (the generation started this year) than Gen Z. Therefore, I propose some new generational ranges: Gen Z: 1997-2007 (Early Gen Z: 1997-2001, Core Gen Z: 2002-2007.) Gen Alpha: 2008-2025 (iPad babies. COVID kids. More similar to Gen Beta than Gen Z.)
