Question about leaks and humidity.
Hey y’all.
We bought our house in April of 2024 and noticed the wood floors warping earlier this summer. We have a crawl space below the house.
The house was build on a hill so the crawl space is about 4 feet off the ground from the entrance on the left and about a foot above the ground as you move further in to the house the side. We had someone come and look at it and said “it was like a rainforest down there” and we recommended remediation within a year or so. We scheduled that remediation in early February
Fast forward to a few weeks ago and a supply line in our sink gave. I replaced it and didn’t think much about it but a few days ago my gf went into the crawlspace and noticed a pool of water right below where the sink was. Turns out I had loosened the packing nut on the shut off valve and it had been slowly leaking into the wall and down into the crawlspace.
We had a remediation guy come today and he said that there was 100% humidify behind the bathroom wall and though he found no rot or structural issue, began selling us all of this remediation work.
So now we are trying to suss the issues from the noise. I believe that the leak just exasperated a known humidity issue and the foundation work we’re doing in a few weeks will solve everything. My gf thinks we should listen to the remediation guy and have him rip up the wall and floor and replace the insulation.
Sorry if this isn’t enough detail, but what do you guys think? My suggestion is for us to get a moisture detector, monitor it, do the foundation work, and see where we are. My gf thinks this risks long term and more expensive damage.
