An anti-missionary experience
Very shortly after I admitted to myself that I didn't believe anymore, I was at the SLC No Kings protest and a nevermo from the Netherlands walked up to me to ask what this was all about. He is a pilot named Stephen who happened to be in SLC incidentally during the protests. I briefly explained why I was personally protesting, but the conversation shortly turned to Mormons and Utah. He asked about some of the basic beliefs and asked me if I was a member. I hesitated, said yes at first, but then came clean and said I didn't really believe it anymore as of recently. We ended up discussing the church and my problems with it for the next couple of hours and he seemed really engaged. We went over everything I knew at the time from evolution to BoM DNA to the BoA translation and even pointed out that the Egyptian god Min had his schlong just hanging out in our scriptures. I even pulled out the gospel library app and showed him the facsimiles and googled the originals that still exist. I talked about polygamy and underaged marriages and polyandry, everything I could think to say. He asked clarifying questions and seemed fascinated. He was the first person I told about my loss of faith and it was really nice to just vent to a stranger.
Stephen, if you ever see this, may the God I no longer believe in bless you for listening to a struggling Mormon guy and may every donut you eat nourish and strengthen your body 🫡
